Police questioned Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh after he got into a bar fight in 1985, during his time at Yale.
The New York Times reported that the incident occurred during Kavanaugh’s junior year at the Ivy League school located in New Haven, Connecticut.
According to the police report, the nominee was questioned alongside four other men by the New Haven Police Department for throwing ice on another patron. His friend Chris Dudley then allegedly threw a glass that hit a 21-year-old man in the ear, according to a witness.
It’s unclear if anyone was arrested, and in the report obtained by the Times, Kavanaugh refused to confirm or deny whether he threw the ice that started the “assault.”
The Times also noted that the event appears to have been alluded to by Chad Ludington, one of the nominee’s Yale classmates.
“On one of the last occasions I purposely socialized with Brett,” Ludington said, “I witnessed him respond to a semi-hostile remark, not by defusing the situation, but by throwing his beer in the man’s face.”
The Yale acquaintance also mentioned Demery’s, the bar where the altercation took place, and said he, Kavanaugh and others had been drinking beer.
