Judge Brett Kavanaugh delivered his prepared statement starting just after 3:00 Thursday afternoon, and after five hours of a hearing during which Dr. Christine Blasey Ford delivered stunning and credible testimony.
Dr. Blasey Ford has described in detail the emotional impact of the sexual assault and attempted rape she charges Judge Kavanaugh with. Even conservatives declared she was composed and credible.
Judge Kavanaugh appeared angry, aggrieved, and at times unable to compose himself. He drank from the water glass frequently, and occassionally seemed to depart from his prepared remarks. Several times he had to pause to take a breath.
“My family and my name have been totally and permanently destroyed by vicious and false additional accusations,” Judge Kavanaugh told Senators on the Judiciary Committee. He attacked the Committee for taking ten days to hold today’s hearing.
“This confirmation process has become a national disgrace,” Kavanaugh said, attacking Democrats. “You have replaced ‘advice and consent’ with ‘search and destroy,'” Kavanaugh accused.
“There’s been a frenzy on the left to come up with something, anything, to block my confirmation.”
