Watch: Kavanaugh Calls Birth Control ‘Abortion-Inducing Drugs’ – Just Like Anti-Choice Activists Do

‘Proof of Kavanaugh’s Hostility Toward Women’s Reproductive Freedom’

Judge Brett Kavanaugh Thursday afternoon referred to birth control as “abortion-inducing drugs” during his Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. The term, aside from being wholly false, is exactly the same as far right wing anti-choice activists and groups use.

Kavanaugh was responding to a question by Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who also holds far right wing anti-choice views.

In addition to calling contraception “abortion-inducing” – which, again, is plainly false – Kavanaugh in his testimony also claimed the government was carrying out its interests “on the backs” of people of faith.

Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was quick to respond publicly, tweeting it was “further proof of Kavanaugh’s hostility toward women’s reproductive freedom.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America also weighed in, calling Kavanaugh’s comment a “lie.”

Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, has told Senators in public and private he sees Roe v. Wade – the precedent that secures the right to choose abortion, but also many other civil rights – as “settled law,” but a leaked email shows he questioned its status. In the email he also made clear Roe could be overturned.
