Trump Names His Black Supporters via Twitter

President Donald Trump, stung by recent poll numbers, took to Twitter to apparently name all of his black friends.

The President name checked a number of black celebrities, including Tiger Woods, Kanye West, George Foreman, and Jim Brown, while suggesting that “even more” endorse his presidency.

The tweets come on the heel of a Rasmussen Poll showing the President currently has a 36% approval rating amongst black Americans. It was at 18% last year, per Rasmussen. The Rasmussen poll often shows higher approval numbers for Trump and other right-leaning candidates versus other outlets.

Trump’s approval rating per a Washington Post-ABC News poll paints a grimmer picture, with Trump’s poll numbers down to 36%, including a drop amongst both Republicans and white voters.

The same poll shows Trump’s support amongst black Americans at a mere 3%.

Woods’ comments, mentioned in the Tweet, were fairly noncommittal. When he was asked by reporters about his relationship with the President after the Northern Trust tournament in New Jersey, Woods said very little.

“Well, I’ve known Donald for a number of years,” he said. “We’ve played golf together. We’ve had dinner together. I’ve known him pre-presidency and obviously during his presidency,” said Woods.

When pressed further, asking how people of color may feel threatened by Trump, Woods once again ducked the question.

“He’s the president of the United States and you have to respect the office,” said Woods. “No matter who’s in the office, you may like, dislike the personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

Woods then brushed off any further comments.
