Trump: ‘I Don’t Think the FBI Should Be Involved’ in Any Further Investigations of Brett Kavanaugh

Despite credible accusations of sexual assault and attempted rape against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump on Tuesday told reporters the FBI should not conduct any further investigation into his pick’s background.
CNBC and other news outlets are reporting the President himself has said he does not thing the FBI should be involved in the investigation related to accusations by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
“I don’t think the FBI should be involved because they don’t want to be involved,” Trump told reporters, “because this isn’t really their thing.”

That’s false. The FBI is an investigative body. Investigating Supreme Court nominees is exactly under their purview.
“I haven’t wanted to speak to Judge Kavanaugh…specifically because I thought it was a good idea not too,” Trump said. “I’m totally supportive, I’m very supportive.”
He also said he wants “total transparency,” but appeared to be speaking about the Mueller investigation.
Judge Kavanaugh spent nine hours at the White House on Monday and was back again Tuesday morning. It’s unknown with whom the federal appeals court judge has been meeting.
“He is a truly outstanding person” with an “unblemished record,” Trump said of his SCOTUS nominee.
