Rod Rosenstein Is Not Resigning – Expecting to Be Fired

Axios is out with a huge bombshell: Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has verbally submitted his resignation to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, ahead of his expected firing by President Donald Trump.

“He’s expecting to be fired,” a source tells Axios.

UPDATE I: 10:50 AM ET –
NBC’s Pete Williams offers a different scenario. Williams says Rosenstein right now is on his way to the White House and is refusing to resign, saying he will have to be fired if the Trump wants him out.

UPDATE II: 11:02 AM ET –
The White House is saying Rosenstein has resigned. It is to Trump’s advantage if Rosenstein officially resigns, because it allows Trump to handpick his successor. If Rosenstein is fired it limits Trump’s options.
