Seen as Politically Motivated
The New York Times has just published a bombshell report stating Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein repeatedly tried to convince FBI officials to secretly tape President Trump then use the audio to get Cabinet officials to support using the 25th Amendment to remove the sitting president.
Rosenstein, who has been a top Trump target for over a year, seems to have come close to being fired several times. If Trump fires Rosenstein he can appoint a replacement who would agree to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.
The entire report is based on contemporaneous memos that appear to have been leaked to The Times.
“Mr. Rosenstein made these suggestions in the spring of 2017 when Mr. Trump’s firing of James B. Comey as F.B.I. director plunged the White House into turmoil,” The New York Times reports. “Over the ensuing days, the president divulged classified intelligence to Russians in the Oval Office, and revelations emerged that Mr. Trump had asked Mr. Comey to pledge loyalty and end an investigation into a senior aide.”
Rosenstein steadfastly disputes the Times reporting.
“The New York Times’s story is inaccurate and factually incorrect,” he said in a statement. “I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda. But let me be clear about this: Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment.”
Regardless of the veracity of the Times report, some on social media are saying the leaking of the memos was politically motivated. Others are certain Rosenstein will be fired as a result.
