President Donald Trump, known for his 3:00 a.m., multi-part Twitter rants, was largely silent on Sunday amid increased scrutiny of him and his organization.
While previous weeks have seen long streams of largely rambling discourse striking back at the Mueller investigation and others he has perceived as enemies, the President stuck to retweeting himself and, in one case, replying to himself.
The president retweeted himself from the 24th, touting the economy, adding that the economy will get “much better from even here.”
Also uncharacteristically, the president chimed in much later than usual, taking to Twitter at 10:00 a.m. Eastern.
In the past week, the president has seen increased pressure, as the trial of his former campaign manager Paul Manafort, wrapped up with Manafort being found guilty on eight counts, while his former lawyer Michael Cohen opted to please guilty on eight counts of his own, and cooperate with the investigation.
Additional key players, including Trump’s long-time CFO, Allen Weisselberg, and American Media head David J. Pecker, have also begun to cooperate with Mueller. These individuals may spell the beginning of the end of the Trump presidency, and seem to have Trump remaining silent — for now.
