‘All of This Goes Away’
Rachel Maddow delivered a series of bombshells Wednesday night that put U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) in great jeopardy. Nunes is the powerful Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee who has made headlines for strange behavior tied to protecting – rather than investigating – President Trump.
Rep. Nunes was secretly recorded at a private fundraiser, closed to the press, speaking to donors. During this fundraiser, he revealed a litany of plans he and Republican lawmakers have to protect President Donald Trump from investigations by Robert Mueller, the FBI, and the DOJ.
Nunes told the high-dollar donors that after the November midterm elections Republicans in the Senate are planning to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Doing so would allow Trump to replace Rosenstein with someone who will end the special counsel’s investigation into Trump and Russia.
The audio also captures GOP Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers agreeing with Nunes’ remarks.
Nunes also explained that the installation of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court is part of the plan to protect Donald Trump. And, Nunes says impeaching Rosenstein now would tie up the Senate, delaying the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh.
Appealing to the donors, Nunes then says, “If Sessions won’t un-recuse and Mueller won’t clear the president, we’re the only ones — which is really the danger. That’s why I keep, and thank you for saying it by the way, I mean we have to keep all these seats,” in the House.
“We have to keep the majority. If we do not keep the majority, all of this goes away.”
In other words, as Maddow explained, Nunes says Republicans are using their majority to protect the president.
