Conway, Ivanka Trump distance selves from President

Speaking on CBS’s “Face The Nation” on Sunday, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said she doesn’t believe that the free press is the “enemy of the people.”

In recent months, President Trump has increased his attacks on Journalists, in spite of a recent attack that killed five employees of the Capital Gazette.

This Sunday, Trump was back on Twitter, claiming that the media was, once again “fake news” and the “enemy of the people.” He also asserted that the media “can also cause War! They are very dangerous & sick!”

Asked to explain these statements, Conway attempted to dissemble Trump’s statements, suggesting that the President was only referring to “some reporters” who “aren’t always telling the truth.” She later went further, saying, “I don’t believe journalists are the enemy of the people.”

Nevertheless, Conway did also say that she thinks, “some journalists are the enemy of the relevant, and the enemy of the news you can use.”

On Thursday, Ivanka Trump also disagreed with her father.

“No, I do not feel that the media is the enemy of the people,” said Ivanka Trump, when asked at an Axios event at the Newseum in Washington.

Both Conway and Ivanka Trump are very much on contrast to press secretary Sarah Huckabb Sanders, who refused to say that the free press is not an enemy of the people when CNN’s Jim Acosta questioned her during Thursday’s press briefing.

While President Trump himself has not spoken out in response to Conway’s comments, he did seem to echo her sentiments on Twitter on Thursday.

“They asked my daughter Ivanka whether or not the media is the enemy of the people. She correctly said no. It is the FAKE NEWS, which is a large percentage of the media, that is the enemy of the people,” tweeted Trump.
