Michael Cohen has dropped a bombshell Thursday night. The president’s former personal attorney says that Donald Trump knew why his son, Donald Trump, Jr., and other members of his campaign were going to meet with a Russian lawyer who has ties to the Kremlin – and approved the meeting.
That meeting was to get compromising material on Hillary Clinton from a foreign government, specifically from Russia.
“Cohen is willing to make that assertion to special counsel Robert Mueller,” CNN reports.
In that now infamous Trump Tower meeting Donald Trump, Jr. was expecting to receive “dirt” on Hillary Clinton. The President’s son, within minutes of receiving an email to arrange the meeting, responses: “If it’s what you say, I love it, especially later in the summer.”
“Cohen alleges that he was present, along with several others, when Trump was informed of the Russians’ offer by Trump Jr.,” CNN’s report continues. “By Cohen’s account, Trump approved going ahead with the meeting with the Russians, according to sources.”
President Trump personally dictated the statement his son released explaining the reasons for the meeting and what transpired. That statement was false.
