Local Radio Station Mocks VP’s Visit by Holding ‘The Mike Pence Sausage Fest’

Kansas City, Missouri will probably be very busy Wednesday as Vice President Mike Pence flies into town to fundraise for anti-gay GOP Rep. Kevin Yoder. But the area will likely be busy for another reason, too.

Radio station 96.5 The Buzz, which calls itself “The Alternative,” is honoring the former Indiana governor’s trip to the Show Me State by holding a party mocking the very anti-LGBT Pence.

“Mike Pence is coming to Kansas City this Wednesday,” the station tweeted Monday. “Pence is no fan of the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re no fan of his. So we’re throwing The Mike Pence Sausage Fest across the street at Barney Allis Plaza starting at 11a. Stop by and get a free hot dog while we have them!”

Pence has a long history of holding anti-gay positions. He signed an anti-gay, pro-discrimination bill into law as governor, which damaged the state’s proud role as a major convention host. During his congressional campaign Pence stated he wanted taxpayer funds to be used for dangerous and harmful “conversion therapy.”

That decades-old position led Olympic skater Adam Rippon to remind America where its Vice President stands on LGBTQ issues – and Pence to engage in battle with the bronze-winning athlete.

96.5 The Buzz engaged a little Twitter battle of its own with a listener who had a beef about the sausage fest:

And the station has been only to happy to continue to mock Pence ahead of his visit:

But mostly the responses to the sausage fest have been like this:
