BAD PRESIDENT
‘Is Michael Cohen Telling the Truth?’: Trump Takes Victory Lap Over GDP – Turns Back on Reporter

President Donald Trump took a big victory lap Friday morning in an address outside the White House to tout the just-released second quarter GDP numbers, which came in at a strong 4.1 percent. And while the president did not mention that behind the numbers were foreign countries scrambling to buy U.S. goods before Trump’s tariffs took effect, he and his economic team insisted the numbers were “unthinkable” during the Obama administration.
As he made this false claim, the White House posted a supporting tweet:

But CNBC’s John Harwood, reports today’s numbers are not as fantastic as Trump claims, noting that President Obama had several quarters of GDP growth stronger than those released today:
strong 4.1% growth under Trump in Q2 of 2018 would rank as 5th strongest Q of Obama presidency
—5.1% Q2 2014
—4.9% Q3 2014
—4.7% Q4 2011
—4.5% Q4 2009— John Harwood (@JohnJHarwood) July 27, 2018
But after Trump’s speech, patting himself on the back, NBC News’ Kristen Welker shouted a question: “Mr. President, is Michael Cohen telling the truth?” She was referring to the news Cohen is ready to flip and tell Robert Mueller Trump knew and approved the Trump Tower meeting with a Russian government lawyer, which he denies.
Trump turned his back and walked away, taking no questions.
