Ex-Trump Aide: Zero-Tolerance Immigration Policy a ‘Public Relations 101 Failure’

President Donald Trump’s zero-tolerance policy has separated thousands of children from their families. The Department of Health and Human Services Secretary, Alex Azar, failed to provide exact numbers on how many children have been torn apart from their parents, according to CNN.

“Exactly how many children are in government custody separated from their parents by the U.S. Government?” CNN’s John Berman said at the opening of his show on Friday evening. “We don’t know because the secretary of Health and Human Services won’t tell us, at least not exactly. He estimates it’s under 3,000 children.”

Former Trump communications strategist, Jason Miller, slammed the administration for having an inconsistent and unclear message.

“Yesterday was a public relations 101 failure,” Miller said. “One of the basic tenets in communications strategy is don’t speculate, so if you don’t have the number, don’t speculate. It went from an exact number of slightly more than 2,000 — to I don’t have the number memorized — to somewhere under 3,000.”

He continued: “The two problems there are, one, they say they don’t know the exact number, and two they’re still guessing. I think it was a fiasco.”
