Calls for Jordan to Resign Grow Amid Accusations 1500 College Wrestlers Were Sexually Abused and He Ignored It
A bombshell NBC News story details allegations by several former Ohio State wrestlers accusing then assistant coach Jim Jordan, now a powerful Republican U.S. Congressman, of repeatedly ignoring reports that the team doctor was sexually molesting or abusing team members.
Calls are mounting for Rep. Jordan, who heads the far right wing House Freedom Caucus and is expected to run for Speaker, to resign.
As if the story wasn’t stunning enough, NBC updated its original reporting. It now includes the allegation that over the years the doctor, Richard Strauss, abused possibly thousands of students.
“Based on testimony from victim athletes from each of the aforementioned varsity sports, we estimate that Strauss sexually assaulted and/or raped a minimum of 1,500/2,000 athletes at OSU from 1978 through 1998,” NBC’s story states. The comment comes from Mike DiSabato, one of the wrestlers who says he was among those abused. He now runs a Columbus-based sports and entertainment agency. DiSabato adds that Rep. Jordan was told about the abuse, and is lying about claiming to have been unaware.
Jordan was the Ohio State’s assistant wrestling coach from 1987-1995. Dr. Strauss was the team physician from the 1970’s through to the late 1990’s. Jordan’s congressional spokesperson issued a strong denial, but Jordan has not personally commented yet.
Also not commenting are any Republican members of Congress, including Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. It’s likely many are hoping the scandal will blow over, given the Fourth of July holiday.
But many are not ignoring the disturbing allegations by at least three of Jordan’s former wrestlers, and many are calling for the outspoken and conspiracy-throrist GOP congressman to resign.
Among them, veteran journalist Michelangelo Signorile, who is a host on SiriusXM Progress and the editor-at-large for HuffPost Queer Voices.
“Time for him to resign,” Signorile tweeted early Tuesday afternoon. He also makes the connection to Wes Goodman, a disgraced Ohio state lawmaker, who was forced to resign after more than two dozen men came forward to accuse him of sexual harassment. Goodman, Signorile notes, worked for Jordan.
Here’s the story on Wes Goodman, who was being groomed for Congress, closeted self-loathing GOPer who was caught having sex with man in his office, then came harassment allegations. Everyone apparently knew for years — and he worked for Jim Jordan.https://t.co/ffkKhJ1xme

Many others want Jordan to resign for ignoring, according to the accusations, the reports of sexual abuse, for years.
Secure the border?!? You couldn’t even secure the safety of the students you coached when you knew they were being molested by your colleague. Shame on you. You need to resign.

How long will it take for Republicans to call on Rep Jim Jordan to resign? He allegedly knew wrestlers at Ohio State were being molested when he was a coach there, yet he took no action and let it happen. Same guy who leads attacks for Trump on FBI and Mueller. #JimJordanResign

Jim Jordan needs to resign immediately. He’s a sexual molestation and rape enabler.

Jordan also defended Roy Moore and allegedly protected a staffer accused of abuse. He must resign.

Rep. Jim Jordan, who allegedly covered up sexual abuse when he worked at Ohio State, must immediately resign from Congress. He must also be criminally investigated. He’s a Republican, but I’d say the same if he were a Democrat. This is far bigger than politics.

We already know that Jim Jordan is using his congressional authority to attack the DOJ in an effort to bury the truth about Trump’s ties to Russia. Now he’s accused of burying the truth about sexual abuse. Reprehensible. Shameful. He has no place in Congress. He should resign. https://t.co/5oSDyKEL1F

Another Joe Paterno. Jordan should resign like all the Penn State bystanders were forced to.

In a period where sexual assault is at an all time high, it is despicable that Congressman Jim Jordan would ignore the fact that wrestlers were being molested by the coach at The Ohio State University. Jim Jordan needs to resign immediately. pic.twitter.com/e1jzIDVidV

Incredible. This guy @Jim_Jordan has spent the last year dragging FBI officials into House hearings and screaming at them for not giving Congress enough information…and now he’s accused of not reporting a child molester to school administrators. https://t.co/RpYWbyBMbu

.@RepMarkMeadows as a father I expect you to ask Jim Jordan @Jim_Jordan to resign. He is a coward. A leader would have stepped up and put a stop to kids getting molested.
