The party that nominated a man who calls an anti-Semitic white supremacist “one of my personal heroes,” to become a U.S. Senator has just started a boycott of a local restaurant that asked Sarah Huckabee Sanders to leave.
The Republican Party of Virginia, in a grammatically-challenged post on its website, says: “The liberal owner of the ‘Red Hen’ restaurant in Lexington threw out Sarah Huckabee [sic] in the middle of dinner just because she works for President Trump! Once again the intolerant left has shown its true colors.”
“Sign the boycott petition below so we can show the Red Hen and it’s [sic] liberal supporters that patriotic Trump supporters are the silent majority in Virginia!”
The Virginia GOP’s chosen nominee who is running against Democratic Senator Tim Kaine is Corey Stewart. His personal hero is Paul Nehlen.
Of course, practically none of what the Virginia GOP wrote is accurate.
The owner of the Red Hen (no quote marks necessary) asked to talk with the White House press secretary outside the restaurant, and explained that her employees felt uncomfortable serving Sanders.
“Several Red Hen employees are gay,” The Washington Post reports, in an interview with Red Hen owner Stephanie Wilkinson. “They knew Sanders had defended Trump’s desire to bar transgender people from the military. This month, they had all watched her evade questions and defend a Trump policy that caused migrant children to be separated from their parents.”
Sanders replied, “That’s fine, I’ll go.”
And that was it, until the press secretary decided to use her government Twitter account to blast the restaurant on Saturday. President Trump used his Twitter account with 53 million followers to do the same Monday morning.
The Virginia GOP’s webpage also calls 15 Democratic candidates – of which 11 are women – “too extreme for Virginia.”
It also claims that a Democratic congressional candidate is an “anti-Semite” because she wrote a book titled, Dangerous Liaison: The Inside Story of the U.S.-Israeli Covert Relationship.
Basically, the Virginia GOP is pulling a Trump: “I’m not the bad guy, look over there, they’re doing those bad things that I’m accused of.”
Of the 40 or so signatures the Red Hen boycott petition has received, one is by a man who has a Confederate flag as his photo. “I hope The Red Hen is out of business before Thanksgiving,” he writes.
