President Donald Trump is reeling from the worldwide outrage over his zero tolerance policy on immigration, and now he’s trying a new tactic to defend putting children in cages and internment camps.
Monday morning the president made three statements, suggesting all immigrants are violent MS-13 gang members.
“Why don’t the Democrats give us the votes to fix the world’s worst immigration laws?” the president asked. “Where is the outcry for the killings and crime being caused by gangs and thugs, including MS-13, coming into our country illegally?”
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, along with both Republican caucuses, have basically blocked any bill that would force the administration to end its policy of putting children in concentration camps, including the newly opened tent cities.
“The people of Germany are turning against their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous Berlin coalition,” he claimed.
“Crime in Germany is way up,” he said, falsely. The president is, in fact, lying. Crime in Germany is at a three-decade low, but anti-Semitism is on the rise.
“Big mistake made all over Europe in allowing millions of people in who have so strongly and violently changed their culture!” Trump continued, implying that all or most immigrants are violent.
That too is false. In the U.S., immigrants, especially undocumented immigrants, perform illegal acts at rates for lower than U.S. citizens.
Veteran journalist and SiriusXM progressive radio host Michelangelo Signorile notes, correctly, that where Trump says, “violently changed their culture!” is “a chilling call to white supremacists. He’s gone full on NAZI.”
The President’s rant wasn’t quite over.
“We don’t want what is happening with immigration in Europe to happen with us!” Trump also claimed, again equating immigrants with violence.
