Trump Declares Canada a National Security Threat and Accuses Them of Burning Down the White House

President Donald Trump has now chosen to accuse Canada of being a national security threat in order to support his decision to impose strong steel and aluminum import tariffs on the country that is America’s second-largest trading partner.

In a “testy” telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President Trump falsely accused his neighbors to the North of having burned down the White House.

“According to the sources, Trudeau pressed Trump on how he could justify the tariffs as a ‘national security’ issue. In response, Trump quipped to Trudeau, ‘Didn’t you guys burn down the White House?’ referring to the War of 1812,” CNN reports.

Trump’s poor grasp of history was showing once again. It was the British in the War of 1812 who burned down the White House.
“The idea that we are somehow a national security threat to the United States is, quite frankly, insulting and unacceptable,” Prime Minister Trudeau said on Sunday.
Clearly President Trump did not watch this White House video from 2012 (which features an amusing surprise at the end):
