Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy Announces Retirement – Trump to Get Second SCOTUS Nominee

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has just announced he will retire. The 81-year old jurist was nominated to the nation’s highest court by President Ronald Reagan in 1988.

Kennedy, a moderate, wrote the majority opinion in several top LGBT cases, including Obergefell, which found same-sex couples have the same rights to marriage as different-sex couples.

President Donald Trump will now have the opportunity to nominate his second Supreme Court justice, after Republican Senate Majority Leader refused to allow any vote on President Barack Obama’s nominee eleven months before the end of Obama’s second term.
