Giuliani Makes Thinly-Veiled Threat: Trump Could Shoot Jim Comey and Still Not Be Indicted

‘No Matter What’

President Donald Trump’s personal attorney for weeks has been engaging in an astonishing level of misrepresentation and obfuscation, but nothing matches the level of pure inhuman illustration Rudy Giuliani engaged in Sunday evening.

The former New York City mayor and former U.S. Attorney famous for prosecuting the Mafia in the 1980’s told HuffPost that President Donald Trump could shoot former FBI Director Jim Comey and still not be prosecuted.

“In no case can he be subpoenaed or indicted,” Giuliani told HuffPost, which added that he was “claiming a president’s constitutional powers are that broad.”

“I don’t know how you can indict while he’s in office. No matter what it is,” Giuliani also claimed.

“If he shot James Comey, he’d be impeached the next day,” Giuliani continued. “Impeach him, and then you can do whatever you want to do to him.”

Trump infamously told supporters during the campaign that he was so popular he could shoot someone dead on Fifth Avenue and still not lose a single vote. Giuliani appeared to take that claim and put a face on it – which is also an astonishing thing to do when, as president, Trump not only fired Comey but has attacked and threatened him for more than a year.

Former Obama-era White House ethics lawyer Norm Eisen characterized Giuliani’s legal claim as “absurd,” “self-evidently wrong,” and “one of many” positions Trump’s legal team have taken that are false.

“A president could not be prosecuted for murder? Really?” he exclaimed. “The foundation of America is that no person is above the law.”
