President Donald Trump is working hard to remake the GOP into his image, and that means if a Republican does not fully support him he will do his best to get rid of them. Only those who bow down to Trump should hold public office, the president believes.
Former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, who made headlines and history when he went MIA on a love quest – despite being married to another woman – gave new meaning in 2009 to “hiking on the Appalachian Trail.” It turned out he was in Argentina with his soul mate.
Snagged at the airport by enterprising reporters, Sanford gave one of the most astonishing press conferences ever.
He later became a Republican U.S. Congressman.
Apparently, none of that matters to Trump.
But what does is loyalty, and apparently, Sanford has not kissed the ring of the fisherman, so to speak.
On Twitter Tuesday afternoon, Trump took time to try to unseat Sanford, who is facing a primary challenge.
Last year Sanford went after Trump, saying “at some level he represents the antithesis, or the undoing, of everything I thought I knew about politics, preparation and life.”
He also accused the president of being “partially to blame for demons that have been unleashed,” in the wake of the Congressional baseball shooting that injured Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA).
