Memorial Day is supposed to be a day for Americans to pause, remember, and honor those who gave their lives while serving in our Armed Forces. It was created as a way to honor their service and to respect those who made the greatest sacrifice, so our nation’s values of freedom and liberty could endure.
But not according to President Donald Trump, who may be the first U.S. president to find a way to make this national holiday all about himself.
“Happy Memorial Day!” Trump tweeted Monday morning. “Those who died for our great country would be very happy and proud at how well our country is doing today. Best economy in decades, lowest unemployment numbers for Blacks and Hispanics EVER (& women in 18years), rebuilding our Military and so much more. Nice!”
It’s doubtful any American soldier fighting for his or her country gave their life so the economy could improve, or so that unemployment cold be lowered.
