Arrested for Sitting in a Starbucks Two Black Men Agree to Selfless Deal with City of Philadelphia

Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson have agreed to a unique and selfless deal with the City of Philadelphia after being arrested for sitting in a Starbucks waiting for a friend. The behavior of the Starbucks store manager and the arrested touched off a firestorm and nationwide condemnations of racism and racial bias.

Rather than suing Philadelphia for millions, the two men “settled with the city for a symbolic $1 each and a promise from officials to set up a $200,000 program for young entrepreneurs,” The Associated Press reports.

They spent several hours in jail and were released without being charged.

Starbucks will close its U.S. stores later this month for an afternoon of anti-bias training. The coffee giant’s CEO, Kevin Johnson, personally met with the two men to apologize.
