Vanessa Trump has officially filed for divorce from the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
“After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways,” the couple said in a joint statement to Page Six. “We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time.”
The split apparently has been in the works for a while. The president’s son’s tweets and travel were apparently a part of the couple’s problems.
Nancy Chemtob, a family law expert, “speculated that Vanessa may be filing for the split now to secure a financial settlement before the Mueller probe potentially puts her husband’s assets at risk.”
“Sources connected to the family tell TMZ the divorce has been a long time coming, and the relationship has been ‘bad for a while.'” TMZ reports. “Among the issues, Vanessa ‘hates politics and Don Jr. is gone all the time.'”
Don Jr. reportedly is “relieved.”
The couple have five children, aged 3 to 10.
