Oklahoma LGBT Group Launches Campaign Against Anti-Gay ‘Religious Freedom’ Bill

Over the Past Two Years Oklahoma Has Seen an Increase in Homeless Children

Oklahoma Republican lawmakers are attacking LGBT parents and same-sex headed families who wish to adopt, by filing a discriminatory bill that would allow agencies that have a religious or moral opposition to same-sex marriage the right to refuse to place a child in their homes.

The Oklahoma State Department of Education in January of 2017 reported nearly 14,000 homeless youth in the the Sooner State. And a December 2017 report for Oklahoma found “a nearly 24 percent increase in homeless families with children compared to the previous year.” It was the second year in a row the homeless population in Oklahoma increased.

“Senate Bill 1140 is being pushed by faith-based groups including the Catholic Conference of Oklahoma and the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. It would protect child-placing agencies that block adoptive parents who do not meet the agency’s religious or moral standards,” Fox News reports.

Freedom Oklahoma has launched a campaign and this video to help inform the public about the dangers of SB1140.
