Kellyanne Conway Officially Busted for Breaking Federal Law

Again

Kellyanne Conway once again has violated federal law, and once again a federal prosecutorial agency is calling for her to be disciplined.

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel (not associated with special counsel Robert Mueller) has informed the White House that after an investigation it has determined that the 51-year old Counselor to the President on two separate occasions violated the Hatch Act by  “advocating for and against candidates” in the 2017 Alabama Senate special election, CNN reports.

Conway “impermissibly mixed official government business with political views about candidates in the Alabama special election,” and she did so while appearing on TV in her official capacity as a White House aide.

The OSC’s special counsel Henry Kerner has sent a letter to President Trump detailing Conway’s violations of the law, for “consideration of appropriate disciplinary action.”

This is not the first time Conway has broken federal law by misusing her position. Early in 2017 she stood in the White House press room and literally held a TV commercial for Ivanka Trump’s fashion business, urging Fox News viewers to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff.”

At the time ethics experts called Conway’s violation of a federal ethics law, “jaw dropping.”

Trump refused to punish Conway. The White House issued a statement saying Conway was “highly unlikely” to break the law again.

The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) responded one year ago in March, telling the White House “disciplinary action serves to deter future misconduct.”

Not taking disciplinary action against a senior official under such circumstances risks undermining the ethics program,” then-OGE Director Walter Shaub wrote.
