Wanted: Weekend Contributing Editor

Award-Winning Progressive News and Opinion Site Announces Call for Weekend Contributing Editor

The New Civil Rights Movement, an award-winning hard-hitting independent news and opinion media organization focused on progressive politics and civil rights, is looking to hire a weekend contributing editor to join our team. Now in our ninth year, NCRM is proud of our exceptionally intelligent, influential, and politically-active readers. We’re also proud to have been the launch pad for journalists who have honed their skills at NCRM before heading to major news sites.

NCRM is looking for an excellent and experienced news writer who can produce high-quality and interesting content on breaking news and news-of-the-day with lightning fast speed to be a weekend contributing editor.

If you have experience, along with a background or interest in progressive politics, civil rights – especially for LGBT people and other minority groups – voting rights, women’s rights, immigration, climate change, race relations, income inequality, or gun control, we’d like to talk with you.

Requirements:

Ability to create and publish print-ready articles.
Ability to effectively utilize social media.
Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends – ability to work every Saturday is a must.
Curiosity to follow a story’s key players.
Ability to identify breaking news as it happens.
Ability to work unsupervised.

This is a freelance position and pay is on a per-day, not hourly basis.

The New Civil Rights Movement is a three-time GLAAD Media Award nominee and the 2014 winner for Outstanding Blog. We have been regularly quoted by and linked to in the mainstream media, and we’re a highly-respected voice in progressive politics and the LGBT news media. NCRM has also been identified and archived by the Library of Congress as a cultural artifact on public policy issues.

The New Civil Rights Movement is proud of our long history of delivering accurate and important news stories at breaking-news speed, and our strong history of analysis and providing context for critical issues in a timely manner.

This is not a call for op-ed or opinion writers. This is a call for writers who can source, turn around, and publish breaking news and news of-the-day before it hits the mainstream news outlets.
