Chris Hayes Destroys Trump’s ‘Spiritual’ Biographer: ‘Is There a Single Person on God’s Great Earth’ Who Thinks He Reads the Bible?

Christian Broadcasting Network White House Correspondent David Brody says evangelical Christians are all in for Donald Trump because he has “been on a spiritual journey the past few years.”

Brody, the co-author of “The Faith of Donald J. Trump: A Spiritual Biography,” told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes Tuesday evening that the only way the Christian far right will drop The Donald is if he’s found with a “Monica Lewinsky in the White House.”

In other words, the religious far right, who have spent decades attacking LGBT people, same-sex marriage, interracial marriage, diversity, feminism, equality, and many other social changes, the group that conceived into being the “Moral Majority,” televangelism, and many other religious-political creations, is now willing to 100 percent overlook the astonishingly long list of sins this U.S. President commits on a regular basis – unless he takes a mistress inside the White House.

That’s where they will draw the line.

Brody, pushing his book, told Hayes “we haven’t seen anything the last few years,” on Donald Trump – meaning, Trump has not done anything the religious right has an issue with over the past few years.

Daily lying, targeting and unleashing his venom on people of all backgrounds, ad hominem attacks, a poor work ethic, possible collusion, possible obstruction of justice, using his office for financial gain, breaking apart families, taking away health care from the poor – none of that registers with evangelical Christians. None of that matters.

Hayes demanded to know if Trump’s “spiritual journey” includes the basics.

“David, David I read my Bible and I grew up in the church, and grace doesn’t come cheap and you gotta ask for it, and you gotta ask for forgiveness, and you have to be pious, and you have to pray to your Lord, God, and Savior and you gotta ask for it,” Hayes reminded Brody. “You have to have a change of heart and you have to reach out spiritually. Is there a single person on God’s great earth that believes Donald Trump is doing that?”

Brody responded that in September of 2015 Trump told him he does ask God for forgiveness.

“Now look, that’s his word,” Brody said, trying to put a sliver of distance between himself and Trump.

“He also talked about when you asked him what God means to him he also talked about how great his golf course is that he didn’t have a mortgage on,” Hayes responded.
