Watch: Pulse Survivor Blasts ‘Years Late’ Rick Scott for Only Signing Gun Bill ‘Now That He Wants Another Job’

‘I’m Not Here to Give Rick Scott a Girl Scout Cookie for Showing Up to Work’

Pulse nightclub shooting survivor Brandon Wolf blasted Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott for being “22 years late” in taking action on gun violence. Governor Scott on Friday signed into law a gun control bill Sunshine State lawmakers were forced to pass – Republicans initially refused to take up any legislation on guns even after 17 people were massacred at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school. They finally passed a bill raising the minimum age to buy firearms to 21 and invoked a 3-day waiting period, but also included in the bill tens of millions of dollars to arm teachers.

I’m not here to give Rick Scott a Girl Scout cookie for showing up to work,” Wolf told MSNBC’s Joy Reid on “AM Joy” Saturday morning.

“He is 22 years late on this issue. He’s still got an A+ rating from the NRA, and to me, it’s pathetic that two years ago, after the Pulse nightclub shooting that took my two very best friends and 47 others, he didn’t care enough” to enact gun legislation.

“Now that he wants another job and he wants people to think he is doing something,” Wolf continued, “he’s decided to pass legislation.”

“I’m sorry, but he’s just doing exactly what he should have done a long time ago.”

Wolf is referring to strong rumors Governor Scott wants to take Democratic U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s seat in the November  election. Nelson, who is running for re-election this year, is the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida, and Scott is term-limited.

But Wolf’s first remarks honored “who actually got this legislation passed. And that is the Parkland students. That is their parents, that’s their passion. They made it clear that the NRA’s power has left the building, that we’re done having a conversation, that were done negotiating with them, so I think it’s important not to forget that piece,” Wolf reminded the panel.
