Watch: Trump Tells Republicans No One Should Worry About the NRA – ‘They’re on Our Side’
‘They Are Doing What They Think Is Right’
President Donald Trump says Republicans should not worry about the National Rifle Association, the increasingly unpopular gun lobbying group that effectively controls the GOP.
“Don’t worry about the NRA, they’re on our side,” President Trump said during televised remarks at the beginning of his meeting with governors Monday afternoon. “They are doing what they think is right. But sometimes we’re going to have to be very tough, and we’re going to have to fight them.”

Trump agrees with the NRA, which spent $30 million to elect him, on nearly every issue except two: raising the legal age to buy assault weapons, and banning bump stocks.
On bump stocks, devices that effectively turn semi-automatic weapons into automatic weapons, Trump told the governors he personally will ban the devices.
“Bump stocks – we’re writing that out,” Trump said. “I’m writing that out myself. I don’t care if Congress does it or not, I’m writing it out myself.”Â

Trump has vacillated between signing an extraordinary number of executive orders while rescinding other of President Obama – such as DACA, which the courts are, for the moment, keeping in place.
