Trump Tweets New Bipartisan Bill to Save DACA and Dreamers Is DOA

‘Total Waste of Time’

A bipartisan bill to save DACA and protect Dreamers just got shot down by the president even before it had a chance to be filed. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) are preparing a bill that would offer DACA recipients a path to citizenship while studying what additional border security protections are needed. It does not provide funding for the president’s border wall he promised Americans would be paid for by Mexico.

Any deal on DACA that does not include STRONG border security and the desperately needed WALL is a total waste of time,” Trump tweeted Monday morning. “March 5th is rapidly approaching and the Dems seem not to care about DACA. Make a deal!”

Democrats and some Republicans have been trying to make a deal, especially after Trump held a 55-minute televised meeting on immigration and DACA in the White House with key Democratic and Republican lawmakers last month and promised them he would sign anything they could agree on:

The following day Trump slipped, all but admitting it was for show, by calling it a “performance.”

Trump Monday warned of the impending March 5 deadline, which is entirely arbitrary, as he set it. He is also the one who killed DACA, and has the power to reverse that act.
