GOP Coverup? Report Says Trump May Use Nunes Memo to Fire Rosenstein

Nunes Memo Created to Discredit FBI

President Trump is expected to use the Nunes memo to force Rod Rosenstein out and replace him with a Deputy Attorney General who is loyal to the president, The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent, putting all the pieces together, reports in his column Thursday morning: “As Mueller closes in on Trump, the Republican coverup intensifies.”

Since Rosenstein is supervising Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his Russia investigation, replacing Rosenstein would allow the president to “constrain” Mueller without firing him directly.

Sargent points to a separate Washington Post article to explain “why Trump wants to see the Nunes memo released.”

“According to senior White House officials and advisers,” the president “sees it as key to making changes at the Justice Department — particularly pushing out Rosenstein.” That would be Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who oversees the Mueller investigation. His supposed misconduct is the subject of the memo.

He also sources yet another Washington Post article:

The Post adds: “According to a person familiar with his comments, the president has told advisers the memo might make people realize how the FBI and Mueller are biased against him, and that could give him reason to force Rosenstein out.” This would presumably clear the way for the appointment of a Trump loyalist to oversee the probe, thus potentially constraining it.

Key to all of this of course is what’s actually in the memo, which no one except Republicans and a few Democrats – notably Rep. Adam Schiff – have seen.

So what’s in the memo?

The memo purports to ‘prove’ that surveillance of a top Trump official was improperly based on Dem-funded research, thus ‘proving’ that the probe’s genesis is irrevocably tainted and that it represents a Deep State Coup to remove the president,” Sargent writes. “Independent reporting has confirmed otherwise, and Dems who have seen the memo say it’s highly distorted.”

Bottom line: The Nunes memo is a work of fraud designed to deceive, Nunes changed it after Republicans voted to release it to the public, President Trump has said he will allow it to be released, expect it to create even more chaos, which will only serve to undermine the right’s view of the credibility of Mueller’s investigation.
