This US Congressman Says if Jews Had Guns They Wouldn’t Have Been ‘Put in the Ovens’

‘How Many Jews Were Put in the Ovens Because They Were Unarmed?’

Republican U.S. Rep. Don Young is telling his Alaska constituents he opposes gun control because Jews in Hitler’s Germany were unarmed.

“How many millions of people were shot and killed because they were unarmed? Fifty million in Russia,” Young said at a conference in Juneau last week. “How many Jews were put in the ovens because they were unarmed?”

Congressman Young, as Alaska Public Media reports, is an NRA board member. At the conference he also railed against video games and the breakdown in the family as causes of gun violence.

A 1938 Nazi law prohibited Jews from owning weapons, but there were numerous instances of armed Jewish resistance during the war,” Alaska Public Media notes. “The Anti-Defamation League says it’s ludicrous to claim Germany’s Jews could have stopped the Third Reich with personal firearms when the military might of entire European countries could not.”

In 2014 Rep. Young visited a local high school and told students they were responsible for the recent suicide of one of their peers. He also took that opportunity to make anti-gay remarks. It was not enough to cost him the election – despite campaigning on those remarks.

The following year Rep. Young drew nationwide anger for saying he wanted to introduce wolves to homeless people.
