Pennsylvania Republican Trying to Impeach Justices Over Gerrymandering Fights Protestors, Loses

‘This Is My Office’ Cris Dush Says – It Didn’t Go Over Well

The Republican state representative leading the charge to impeach five Democratic justices on the Pennsylvania supreme court was met with resistance in the form of voters protesting at his office on Tuesday. He fought, and lost.

Rep. Cris Dush, a right wing Christian conservative, filed legislation Monday to impeach the justices after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to block the top state court’s ruling. That ruling found Republicans’ gerrymandered maps unconstitutional, and ordered them to create new ones – and fast – that will be used in the November congressional elections.

There are far more Democrats than Republicans in Pennsylvania, but thanks to Republican shenanigans, there are far more Republican U.S. Congressmen representing the state than Democrats. Hence the state supreme court’s ruling.

Dush was asked by protestors why he is trying to impeach the justices.

His response: the justices have overstepped their authority.

When his constituents objected to that, Dush replied: “Let me finish! Let me finish!” raising his hand as well as his voice.

“I’m protecting the rule of law,” he claimed – which of course is false. Impeachment over a ruling is the exact opposite of defending the rule of law.

“This is not about gerrymandering,” Dush tried to claim – the protestors knew better.

“Yes it is!” they shouted.

“No!” Dush shouted back.

“It’s our turn to talk sir,” one protestor responded.

“You know what? This is my office,” Dush, clearly forgetting he is an elected representative of the people, retorted.

“This is the people’s office! This is our office!” the protestors replied. “We are the people! We have a right to speak.”

Dush gave up and walked away.

As he did, the protestors shouted, “Shame! Shame! Shame!”
