Paul Ryan Was Just Asked if He Is Doing Enough to Prevent School Shootings – Here’s His Insane Answer

No Plans

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is passing the buck on protecting the nation’s children from school shootings like the one in Parkland, Florida two weeks ago.

“You’re meeting with these Parkland students. You have a daughter who’s that age,” NBC News’ Kasie Hunt said to Speaker Ryan Tuesday morning during a weekly press conference. “Can you look at them and tell them that you are doing enough –”

Ryan interrupted and did not let her finish the question.

“First of all there was a colossal breakdown in the system, locally,” the Speaker interjected. “We need to get to the bottom of how these breakdowns occurred.”

“To the armed officer who was in the school at that time, to the FBI who failed to follow up on a glaring tip, this young man wanted to shoot up a school,” Ryan responded, not mentioning what, if anything, Congress will do.

“That’s pretty profound. Then we also know that there are problems in the system with background checks where people slip through the cracks. We already passed a bill to fix that,” Ryan added.

“Of course we want to listen to these kids,” he continued. “We also want to ensure that we protect people’s due process rights and legal constitutional rights while making sure that people who should not get guns don’t get them. This kid was clearly one of those people.”

Speaker Ryan did not offer any plan to outlaw bump stocks, which President Trump supports. He offered no plan to raise the minimum age to buy firearms. He offered no plan to outlaw assault weapons, or to pass any legislation to protect children.
