Paul Ryan Deletes Tweet Praising Tax Cuts for Giving Secretary $1.50 Raise to Pay for Costco Membership
Deletion Followed Quick Backlash
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan quickly deleted a tweet on Saturday that praised the Republican tax cut bill for the rich for allowing a high school secretary to pay for her Costco membership with a $1.50 a week raise.
“A secretary at a public high school in Lancaster, PA, said she was pleasantly surprised her pay went up $1.50 a week,†the tweet read. “… she said [that] will more than cover her Costco membership for the year.â€
Ryan had quoted the tweet by AP Business News, seen below:

The tweet’s deletion was likely due to an almost immediate backlash:
A sniveling disingenuous hack from Wisconsin said he was pleasantly surprised to find $500,000 in his bank account after shoving the GOP tax bill down Americans’ throats. “Hey lookie there!” he said, grinning. “How about that! A half million dollars!” https://t.co/MzaCBeP2Ck

Is this tweet Paul Ryan or The Onion.
Could Ryan be more insulting, condescending, out-of-touch with reality?
Sorry Lyin’ Ryan, but when you finish gutting healthcare/Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security, this secretary’s COSTCO membership won’t save her. #SaturdayMorning https://t.co/mojhpt5Mci

Paul Ryan applauds himself for giving a secretary $1.50 to pay for the entry fee to Costco. He gave my corporate attorney ass $150, which buys all of my actual groceries at Whole Foods.
One question: Why? pic.twitter.com/KdP5DghGbV

sadly, paul Ryan is THAT deranged, he thinks a $1.50 a week raise is freakin AWESOME. (Hey everyone! According to Paul Ryan, $1.50/week raise is freakin FANTASTIC; you can get a Costco membership card)#RealTalk – repeal & replace Ryan with progressive, @IronStache https://t.co/GkvzTaxc7d

That Paul Ryan tweet (now deleted) just proves the point that the tax cut was “nice†for middle class earners for whom a Costco membership is a friendly bonus, but it does nothing meaningful for people at the bottom of the income scale.

Paul Ryan is going to look extra foolish when Costco raises its membership fee to $80 per year

Lol remember when Paul Ryan posted a tweet trying to hype a school secretary’s $1.50/wk raise and how psyched she was that it would pay for her Costco membership? pic.twitter.com/H9jyuuVWfQ

Paul Ryan deleted the Costco tweet, which means he was surprised by the reaction to it. Imagine how out of touch with reality a person would have to be to think the reaction to that story would be anything but scorn.

Does Paul Ryan know what Costco is.
