Having Failed to Uncover Any Wrongdoing at the FBI Nunes Reveals Next Investigation Target

‘We Should Have Never, Never Been Here’ Nunes Says

Having spent untold hundreds of thousands of dollars (if not millions) and having wasted countless congressional staff hours, Republican House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes’ memo failed to actually uncover any wrongdoing other than by Republican House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes. The memo, as several Democrats and the FBI itself stated, is a fraud.

After President Donald Trump read and declassified the Nunes memo, which purportedly was going to expose the trampling of civil liberties against U.S. citizens while exposing the Mueller Russia investigation as the “fruit of the poisoned tree,” liberals and conservatives alike concluded the Chairman’s memo was, basically, a “nothingburger.”

Undeterred – Devin Nunes has been screwing up exactly like this for the past year, at least – the Intelligence Chairman Friday afternoon took to Fox News to announce the target of his next investigation: the U.S. Department of State, aka “Phase II.”

“We are in the middle of what I call phase two of our investigation, which involves other departments, specifically the State Department and some of the involvement that they had in this,” Nunes told Fox News’ Bret Baier.

“That investigation is ongoing and we continue work towards finding answers and asking the right questions to try to get to the bottom of what exactly the State Department was up to in terms of this Russia investigation.”

Ironically, Nunes began his Fox News interview by saying, “I’m sad that we had to get to this point. We should have never, never been here.”

Most people would agree, but not as Chairman Nunes thinks.

The Hill’s Max Greenwood notes that it is “unclear what role, if any, the State Department played in the law enforcement investigation into whether members of the Trump campaign collaborated with Russia amid Moscow’s efforts to sway the 2016 presidential election.”

It is also unclear why Nunes is investigating the investigation into who colluded or collaborated with Russia, rather than investigating how and why Russia interfered in the U.S. election and working to ensure it never happens again.

Nunes apparently has been tasked by President Trump with stirring up trouble and creating extreme confusion and distractions in an effort to discredit arms of the U.S. government, from the FBI and DOJ to, now, the State Dept.
