BREAKING: SCOTUS Denies Trump DACA Request

SCOTUS to Trump: Get in Line

The U.S. Supreme Court has just refused to immediately hear an appeal by the Trump administration after a federal court blocked the president’s attempt to shut down DACA, an immigration program protecting undocumented immigrants.

The immediate effect is that President Trump’s March 5 deadline for shutting down DACA is meaningless, and many aspects of the program will be extended for about a year.

The Supreme Court can still take up the case, but not in a prioritized fashion, which means due to an already full calendar no decision will come this year. It says it is awaiting a judgment from the 9th Circuit before deciding if it will take up the case.

“The petition for a writ of certiorari before judgment is denied without prejudice,” the Court states. “It is assumed that the Court of Appeals will proceed expeditiously to decide this case.”
