White House Claims Trump’s Flip Flop FISA Tweets Were Totally Normal, Nothing to See Here, There Was No Conflict

He’s ‘Been Clear’ (No, He Hasn’t)

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders took great umbrage Thursday afternoon when repeatedly asked why President Trump earlier in the morning tweeted an attack on an upcoming vote in the House to reauthorize FISA, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, only to less than two hours later demand Congress, “Get smart!” and pass it.

President Trump “has a full understanding” of his policy on FISA, Huckabee Sanders told reporters when told it appeared he didn’t know how FISA works.

She noted that Speaker Ryan after Trump tweeted praised his grasp of FISA.

“We don’t think there was a conflict at all,” Huckabee Sanders went on to state. “The president fully supports the 702 and was happy to see that it passed the House today. But, he does have some overall concern with the FISA program more generally.”

Media Matters’ Senior Fellow Matthew Gertz called the press secretary’s claims “absurd.”

“Total contempt,” he added.
