White House: Bannon’s Toast

‘I Don’t Believe There’s Any Way Back for Mr. Bannon’ Spokesperson Says

The White House is not accepting Steve Bannon‘s non-apology apology. The former Trump campaign CEO and former Trump White House chief strategist reportedly spoke frequently with Michael Wolff, author of the bombshell book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.” His published remarks have caused the Trump administration great distress in the past week.

Those remarks, including the suggestion that the president’s son Donald Trump Jr. committed a “treasonous” act by speaking with the Russians in Trump Tower during the campaign, led President Trump to issue a scathing, lengthy statement that concluded Bannon had “lost his mind.”

After waiting several days, Bannon issued a statement of regret on Sunday, part of which insists he was referring to then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, not Donald Trump Jr. Read in context, it’s hard to make that claim.

On MSNBC, Michael Wolff made it clear, stating Bannon’s remarks indeed were about Donald Trump Jr., and not Paul Manafort.

A White House spokesperson on Monday told reporters traveling with the President that there’s no chance of a reconciliation between Bannon and Trump.

“I don’t believe there’s any way back for Mr. Bannon at this point,” deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley said aboard Air Force One.

CNN’s Chris Cillizza suggests the Trump-Bannon partnership might not be over forever. Cillizza urges readers to “remember that Trump’s grudges aren’t like other peoples’ grudges. He holds them until he decides he doesn’t want to anymore or that it is politically advantageous — or good TV — for him to end the grudge.”

Need evidence? Guess who flew to Tennessee on Air Force One today with President Trump? None other than “Liddle Bob Corker,” the Tennessee Republican senator who repeatedly raised questions about Trump’s mental stability and fitness for office last year.

Bannon has also lost the financial backing of financier Rebekah Mercer, and his stewardship of the Breitbart website is reportedly under evaluation.

President Trump has reportedly been calling conservatives demanding they choose between him and Bannon.
