Trump Threatens to Cut Millions in US Aid to Palestinians – via a Tweet

‘Why Should We Make Any of These Massive Future Payments to Them?’ President Asks

President Donald Trump is once again conducting foreign policy via threats, and via Twitter. For the second time in as many days Trump has threatened a foreign government on Twitter. On Monday it was Pakistan. On Tuesday Trump posted tweets threatening the Palestinian Authority, saying he may cut off hundreds of millions of dollars the United States gives them in foreign aid.

The Independent calls Trump’s tweets “provocative,” and says they “are likely to inject further uncertainty into America’s relationship with Palestinian leadership, already strained by Mr Trump’s move to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Palestinian officials and other critics warned Mr Trump’s move squandered American credibility as a neutral mediator, undercutting the prospect of a peace settlement.”
