Trump to America: Honor MLK Day With ‘Civic Work and Community Service.’ Trump on MLK Day: Goes Golfing

“President’s motorcade arrived at Trump International Golf Course at 9:07 a.m.”

One day after calling Haiti and African nations “shithole countries,” President Donald Trump last week held a White House ceremony to sign a proclamation declaring Monday, January 15, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

“Dr. King’s faith and his love for humanity led him and so many other heroes to courageously stand up for civil rights of African Americans,” President Trump told his invited guests and members of the press during the nationally televised event.

“Through his bravery and sacrifice, Dr. King opened the eyes and lifted the conscience of our nation. He stirred the hearts of our people to recognize the dignity written in every human soul. Today, we celebrate Dr. King for standing up for the self-evident truth Americans hold so dear, that no matter what the color of our skin or the place of our birth, we are all created equal by God.”

Trump, after concluding his short speech announced, “I will now sign the proclamation making January 15, 2018 the Martin Luther King, Jr., Federal Holiday and encourage all Americans to observe this day with acts of civic work and community service in honor of Dr. King’s extraordinary life — and it was extraordinary indeed — and his great legacy.”

On Monday, the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday, President Trump went golfing.

“President’s motorcade departed Mar-a-Lago at 8:54 a.m. Rolling to unspecified location but golf appears likely,” the press pool’s report states.

Minutes later, the press pool’s report stated, “President’s motorcade arrived at Trump International Golf Course at 9:07 a.m.”

The president generally spends about four hours when at his golf courses. As of this writing he is still at the Trump International Golf Course.

Since taking office this is Trump’s 94th visit to a Trump golf course and his 121st day at a Trump property.

In 2012, for the third year in a row, then-President Barack Obama and his family paid homage to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by doing what he encouraged other Americans to do: civic work:
