Trump May Ask Sessions to Prosecute Mueller: Report

Politicizing the Justice Department to Attack His Enemies? Trump Is All In.

President Donald Trump is considering asking Attorney General Jeff Sessions to prosecute Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

President Trump, NBC News reports, “has adopted a two-track strategy to deal with the Mueller investigation.”

The first is to passively allow the investigation to run its course, with the president holding tight to his belief he has done nothing wrong and will soon be exonerated.

That plan seems to be plan B.

Plan A is far more aggressive, one Americans have already seen in full-force this week.

Trump’s strategy, NBC’s Howard Fineman reports, “is to discredit the investigation and the FBI without officially removing the leadership.”

House Republicans’ vote Monday night to release Devin Nunes’ memo that alleges mishandling of FISA warrants by the FBI is a huge step forward in that plan.

“Trump is even talking to friends about the possibility of asking Attorney General Jeff Sessions to consider prosecuting Mueller and his team,” the NBC News report states.

“Here’s how it would work: ‘We’re sorry, Mr. Mueller, you won’t be able to run the federal grand jury today because he has to go testify to another federal grand jury,'” said one Trump adviser.

It’s unclear exactly what Sessions might prosecute Mueller for.
