Trump: ‘I Am Not a Racist’ (Video)

‘I Am the Least Racist Person’

President Donald Trump was asked Sunday evening about comments he made in the Oval Office last week about Haiti and African nations, calling them “shithole countries,” according to several sources in the room.

“I am not a racist,” the president told reporters as he stood with House Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. “I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed, that I can tell you,” a somewhat combative Trump retorted as he pointed his finger at reporters.

After his White House at first did not deny the racist remarks, and following reports that the president actually called friends to take a “victory lap” when news broke of his remarks, an embattled Trump became emboldened when a few GOP Senators who were in the room either said they could not recall him making the remarks or flat out said he did not.

Trump Sunday night used those denials, despite confirmation from Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, to insist he had not said what was reported.

“Did you see what various senators in the room said about my comments?” Trump asked reporters. “They weren’t made,” he said in the passive voice.
