Mitt Romney Blasts Trump’s Racist Remarks as ‘Antithetical to American Values’
‘The Poverty of an Aspiring Immigrant’s Nation of Origin Is as Irrelevant as Their Race’
Former Republican Party presidential nominee Mitt Romney blasted President Donald Trump on Monday, calling the racist remarks Trump made in a meeting on immigration “antithetical to American values.”
Romney, who is believed to be planning a run for the U.S. Senate, took to Twitter on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to post this tweet:
The poverty of an aspiring immigrant’s nation of origin is as irrelevant as their race. The sentiment attributed to POTUS is inconsistent w/ America’s history and antithetical to American values. May our memory of Dr. King buoy our hope for unity, greatness, & “charity for all.â€

Trump interviewed Romney for the job of Secretary of State, after the former Massachusetts governor had attacked him during the election. Few believed Trump would allow Romney to serve in his cabinet after he called Trump a “phony” and a “fraud,” and said of the real estate mogul, “a business genius he is not.”
