McCabe Did Not ‘Step Down’ by Choice – Was ‘Forced’ Out as FBI Deputy Director: Reports

Fox News Switches From ‘Removed’ to ‘Stepping Down’

Andrew McCabe was “removed” from his post and “forced” out as Deputy Director of the FBI, according to several news reports. McCabe, who served in the federal government for 22 years, Monday stepped down from his post, effective immediately. Just 49-years old, he had announced an early retirement effective in March, but now will take what is called “terminal leave,” ending his job but staying on the payroll via personal leave time, until his retirement begins.

Fox News reported McCabe had been “removed,” but minutes later altered that language to read “stepping down.”

CBS News on-air and online used the term “forced” to step down.

CBS News correspondent Julianna Goldman reports McCabe was “forced” out:

CNN’s Steve Brusk also says a source said McCabe was “removed.”

NBC News originally broke the story, saying McCabe is “stepping down.”
