Longtime GOP Senator Orrin Hatch Announces Retirement, Paving Way for Mitt Romney – and for Trump Attacks

Romney Likely Would Be Thorn in Trump’s Side

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) has just announced he will be retiring at the end of his term. Hatch is the longest serving GOP senator in history, and has been in the Senate since winning his first election in 1976.

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney reportedly is very interested in running for the seat. President Donald Trump tried to convince Hatch to not retire, knowing Romney – once a “never Trump” activist – would likely win were he to run.

Before Trump won the 2016 election, Romney delivered a speech calling the Manhattan real estate mogul a phony, a fraud.”

A business genius he is not,” Romney also said of Trump.
