Six Ways Trump Will Mislead You in His SOTU Address

Don’t Be Duped

The White House has just released excerpts from President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address. Some of them are false. Some of them are great remarks – they just don’t coincide with anything Donald Trump has ever actually meant or done.

Here are six things President Donald Trump will say tonight that are clearly false or misleading:

  1. “We want every American to know the dignity of a hard day’s work; we want every child to be safe in their home at night, and we want every citizen to be proud of this land that we love. [Trump is “ripping families apart” and even deporting children.]
  2. “For the last year we have sought to restore the bonds of trust between our citizens and their government.” Trump has spent the past year attacking the FBI, destroying the State Dept., lying to cover for FEMA mismanagement, turned the EPA upside down to protect polluters, and tried relentlessly to demolish ObamaCare and Medicare.]
  3. “We have ENDED the war on American Energy – and we have ENDED the War on CLEAN COAL. We are now an exporter of energy to the world.” [There was no war on American energy. Thanks to the Obama administration the U.S. is poised to become a net exporter of energy (exporting more than importing) but that won’t happen for years. We are not currently a net exporter of energy.]
  4. “Struggling communities, especially immigrant communities, will also be helped by immigration policies that focus on the best interests of American Workers and American Families. [Donald Trump does not care about immigrant communities, especially struggling ones. He wants to ban most immigrants and allow into the U.S. only those who meet his “merit-based” requirements. One of those requirements apparently is to not come from a “shithole” country.]
  5. “So tonight I am extending an open hand to work with members of both parties, Democrats and Republicans, to protect our citizens, of every background, color, and creed.” [How long until his next tweet attacking “Cryin’ Chuck Schumer? Trump will be like Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown.]
  6. Tonight, I want to talk about what kind of future we are going to have, and what kind of nation we are going to be. All of us, together, as one team, one people, and one American family.” [Trump’s vision of “one people, and one American family” is a white Christian “family” only.]
