GOP SHUTDOWN: White House Calls Democrats ‘Losers’ as Republicans Fail to Keep Government Open
Senate Republicans Can’t Pass Bill to Keep Government Operating – Trump Begins Second Year in Office in a Shutdown
Twelve hours before the minute he was sworn in to office the federal government officially shut down over a failure of the “Art of the Deal” president and Republicans in Congress to reach an agreement on several key issues. President Trump’s White House press secretary five minutes before the stroke of midnight issued a statement calling Democrats “losers” and trying to blame them for the GOP shutdown.
“Senate Democrats own the Schumer Shutdown,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, referring to Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, said in a statement. “Tonight, they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country’s ability to serve all Americans. We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands. This is the behavior of obstructionist losers, not legislators. When Democrats start paying our armed forces and first responders we will reopen negotiations on immigration reform. During this politically manufactured Schumer Shutdown, the President and his Administration will fight for and protect the American people.”
.@nancycordes: “At this point, it’s pretty clear that there is going to be at least a temporary government shutdown. And so in a way, the deadline pressure has eased a little bit. Because they know they are not going to meet the deadline.” https://t.co/eK4NmkzQpF pic.twitter.com/2lb12V1yUG
