Former Educator Who Was Suspended for Calling Homosexuality a ‘Sin’ That ‘Breeds Like Cancer’ Has Certificates Suspended

Teacher Had Also Said Homosexuality Is ‘Against the Nature and Character of God!’

A former New Jersey educator who was suspended for three years over virulently anti-gay remarks has now agreed to the suspension of her three teaching certificates. Jenye “Viki” Knox in 2011 had posted a diatribe to Facebook in which she called homosexuality a “sin” that “breeds like cancer,” “unnatural immoral behaviors,” and “a perverted spirit that has existed from the beginning of creation.” She had been suspended for three years. 

“The posts on Jenye ‘Viki’ Knox’s personal Facebook page eventually caused the special education teacher and faculty adviser to the school’s Bible study group to resign. She later filed a federal lawsuit claiming school officials had violated her free speech and religious rights,” NJ.com reports Sunday, also reporting that Knox agreed to have her teaching certificates suspended. 

Knox was a special education teacher. Her 2011 Facebook attack on LGBTQ people was prompted by her New Jersey school’s tribute to Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender History Month. She had posted a photo (below) of it on Facebook.

“Did they really put that up in the hallway at UHS?” a Facebook friend asked Knox. She responded by saying, “Yes they did!!! And it’s still there! I’m pitching a fit!”

In a now-archived report, NCRM had taken screenshots of some of Knox’s Facebook conversation.

Knox apparently had also complained in that Facebook screed about a female colleague who is married to a woman. “Did she really have to say in my presence, ‘She’s such a good wife!’ about her partner?!? Seriously!!”

At the time, then-Governor Chris Christie characterized Knox’s Facebook gay bashing as “disturbing.”

Among those seeing Knox’s rant were some of her former students, who, along with others, denounced her remarks.

But not all the remarks in the Facebook post defended LGBTQ people. 

“Oh so its cool to show the kids that its okay to hate who u are and change ur gender. Unreal,” one woman wrote.

“Just saw this pic……. Threw up in my mouth. Wow. Just wow,” posted another.

Knox also said that homosexuality was a choice that is “against the nature and character of God!”

“I/WE DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT ANYTHING, ANYONE. ANY BEHAVIOR OR ANY CHOICES! I DO NOT HAVE TO TOLERATE ANYTHING OTHERS WISH TO DO. I DO HAVE TO LOVE AND SPEAK AND DO WHAT’S RIGHT!” she concluded. 

Knox’s comments sparked protests at the school in 2011:
